Alternative Fuels Engineering helps businesses adopt efficient alternative fuel solutions that reduce emissions and support a lower carbon footprint. Our automotive engineering expertise delivers reliable, cutting edge technologies for cleaner transportation.

Rethinking the Automobile. Not Reinventing the Wheel.
Practical engineering. Alternative fuels. Vehicles built to last.
At Alternative Fuels Engineering (AFE), we believe the future of transportation doesn't have to mean increasingly complicated vehicles, expensive proprietary systems or technology that places basic maintenance beyond the reach of the people who own them. Sometimes progress means reconsidering what already works.
We're developing an alternative fuel vehicle platform that combines proven mechanical engineering principles with modern advances in fuel efficiency, emissions technology, and sustainable energy.
Our goal is straightforward: build a practical, efficient, affordable vehicle that people can understand, maintain and keep on the road for years to come.
Alternative Fuels Engineering was established in 2007 with an interest in developing practical applications for renewable liquid fuels and conventional diesel technology.
Our work draws on hands on automotive experience, mechanical engineering and years of interest in vegetable oil powered transportation.
We believe there is an opportunity to rethink how vehicles are designed, fueled, serviced and ultimately owned.
Today's automotive industry increasingly relies on complex electronic systems, proprietary diagnostic equipment, and components that can make even relatively minor repairs expensive. Meanwhile, the growing demand for sustainable transportation has created opportunities to explore alternatives beyond a single powertrain technology.
AFE is pursuing a different approach.
We're investigating how mechanically straightforward, compression ignition vehicles can be adapted to operate with alternative liquid fuels while maintaining the reliability, efficiency, and serviceability that made earlier generations of diesel engines so durable.
Our philosophy is simple: technology should serve the owner, not make the owner dependent on it.
Our proposed vehicle platform is centered on a mechanically oriented diesel engine architecture capable of supporting a dual fuel system utilizing conventional diesel and properly prepared straight vegetable oil (SVO).
The platform is being developed around several core principles:
Alternative Fuel Capability
A dual-fuel architecture designed to accommodate diesel operation alongside properly conditioned vegetable oil fuels. Our research includes fuel preparation, thermal management, delivery systems and long term engine compatibility.
Mechanical Simplicity
A design philosophy that prioritizes accessible mechanical systems, conventional components, and fewer unnecessary electronic dependencies.
Owner Serviceability
We envision a vehicle that can be maintained with commonly available tools, accessible replacement parts and comprehensive service documentation. Repairability is a fundamental design objective, not an afterthought.
Fuel Efficiency
Efficiency is central to our development program. We're investigating engine configurations, vehicle weight, fuel delivery and related systems with an ambitious target of approximately 60 miles per gallon, subject to prototype testing and validation.
Emissions Research
Alternative fuels must be evaluated for their real world environmental impact. Our development program includes investigating emissions control technologies compatible with both diesel and vegetable oil operation, with performance and regulatory compliance to be established through testing.
Technology Where It Matters
We're not opposed to modern technology. We believe it should be used deliberately. Optional digital features and advisory diagnostic tools can provide useful information without making essential vehicle functions dependent on unnecessary software or connectivity.
Transportation is only one part of the equation. AFE is also interested in the broader potential of locally produced and recovered vegetable oil fuels.
That includes exploring opportunities involving used cooking oil recovery, agricultural oilseed production, fuel processing and regional distribution.
Rather than viewing renewable fuels exclusively through large scale industrial supply chains, we're interested in whether local agricultural producers, businesses and fuel processors could participate in a more distributed energy economy.
This approach could create opportunities for agricultural diversification, productive use of recovered oils, and regional fuel resilience.
Our long term vision extends beyond a single automobile. We want to explore how practical alternative fuel technologies could support transportation, agricultural equipment and other appropriate mechanical applications.
We believe a vehicle should be a long term investment, not a product designed around increasingly expensive replacement cycles.
An automobile should be understandable to the people who maintain it. Replacement parts should be accessible. Repairs should be practical. Owners should have the information necessary to service their own equipment or choose an independent mechanic.
Our approach favors durability, mechanical accessibility and thoughtful engineering over unnecessary complexity.
We aren't trying to eliminate innovation. We're trying to make innovation useful.
Alternative Fuels Engineering is currently in the research and development planning stage of its next generation vehicle program.
Our initial development strategy centers on evaluating an established mechanical diesel platform as a research vehicle for alternative fuel delivery, thermal management, efficiency, reliability and emissions testing.
This approach allows us to investigate critical systems using proven automotive architecture before determining the requirements for a dedicated vehicle platform.
As development progresses, AFE intends to explore technical collaborations, engineering partnerships, research opportunities and potential funding relationships.
We recognize that bringing a new vehicle concept to market requires rigorous testing, regulatory evaluation, manufacturing planning and substantial engineering development.
Our objective is to approach that process methodically, with realistic milestones and measurable results.
To develop practical, efficient, serviceable transportation technologies that expand alternative fuel options, reduce unnecessary mechanical complexity and give vehicle owners greater independence.
We believe sustainable transportation should be accessible, repairable and engineered for the real world.
Alternative Fuels Engineering welcomes conversations with engineers, researchers, agricultural partners, alternative-fuel specialists, prototype developers, and organizations interested in practical transportation innovation.
We're especially interested in connecting with individuals and organizations working in mechanical diesel technology, renewable liquid fuels, emissions research, and sustainable manufacturing.
